The Blame Game

“Man is never a failure until he blames somebody else."

Most of the time things happen to us because of our own bad choices or wrong turns we made. Some of us need to step up to the plate and take responsibility for our own actions. We’re good at being blame-shifters. We blame fast food restaurants for making us fat. We blame tobacco companies for giving us cancer. We blame the church for our lack of spiritual growth. We blame the Pastor if we don’t ‘feel’ the anointing’. We blame God for the results of our poor choices.

We point fingers and blame everyone but ourselves. It’s Hillary’s fault! It’s Obama’s fault! It’s Donald Trump’s fault! It’s the Democrats, it’s the Republicans! It’s the Liberals, it’s the Conservative! It’s the white man’s fault! It’s the black man’s fault! It’s always someone pointing fingers at someone else. Some of us even try to put the blame on God’s shoulders, after all He’s in complete control, right?

Is Trump the anti-christ or is he a savior! Are we facing the judgement of God or are we granted a reprieve. When adversity strikes, even the Christian is tempted to ask, “Where’s God? Doesn’t He care about the thousands who are starving in East Africa or the innocent civilians who are being brutally murdered in many war-ravaged countries around the world? Doesn’t he care about all the unborn babies who are being murdered by the millions every single year? Doesn’t He care about the police officers that are being ambushed and murdered? Doesn’t He care that brothers have turned against brothers and are killing each other? (Knee jerk reactions from both sides.) Doesn’t He care that people are rioting and destroying cities? Doesn’t He care about me?” Doesn’t He care that the world He created is going to hell in a hand basket? Is God really in control? Is He trustworthy? Will He help? Even the Apostle Paul pleaded with God three times to take away the thorn in his flesh before he finally found God’s grace to be sufficient. Joseph pleaded with Pharaoh’s cupbearer to “get me out of this prison” (Genesis 40:14). And the writer of Hebrews very honestly states, “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful” (Hebrews 12:11). Is God punishing America for her sins? Is God behind what’s going on today or is it something else. Could it possibly be from our own choices, our sin? Just look back at some of the choices “We, the people” have made. We’ve allowed prayer to be taken out of our schools! We’ve made it okay to kill our babies before they ever get a chance of seeing life! We’ve tarnished the sanctity of marriage! We’ve removed holiness from the church! We’ve bought into the false grace gospel...if it feels good, do it. “Consider what God has done. Who can straighten out what He has made crooked?” (Ecclesiastes 7:13). God had brought a “crooked” event into our lives, and we must be aware that only He can straighten it. Can we trust Him even if we don’t understand His ways?

We start playing the ‘blame game’ before we ever begin school. A three-year-old trips over a toy and falls. He picks himself up off the floor, throws the toy across the room and says, “Mean toy, you made me fall!” He’s already learned to play the blame game. The blame game is a most destructive game. Every time something goes wrong, it seems that we try to blame someone or something. This deadly game started at the beginning of time, in the Garden…. God asked Adam “ Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” The man said, “The woman whom you gave me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.” Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” And the woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Say you’re driving 75 mph in a 55 mph zone. You’re pulled over and given a ticket that gives you enough points to have your license suspended. Who is to blame? Not you. It’s the officer’s fault; he should have been a little more sympathetic to your situation. You break the law, go to jail and who do you blame? The cops, your parents, your friends, the system but never yourself! Until we take responsibility for our wrong choices, we will never heal. The ‘blame game’ is a popular game and it’s a destructive game but unfortunately we live in a society where it’s not only acceptable, but also profitable to shift the blame. But does this mean it’s acceptable and profitable in God’s eyes? It’s hard for us to accept blame. It’s a defense mechanism to keep us from having to deal honestly with our mistakes. It never unites, it only divides. It never builds, it always tears apart. It never solves a problem. It only makes the problem bigger. So the next time we feel the need to point a finger, let us turn it around and point it in our own faces!

God has the answer and I’d like to share it with you....”Then if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”

 In His love,
 Elizabeth
